A $90 fee is required to adopt any animal at the shelter. This fee covers the cost of a physical exam, a rabies vaccine, sterilization, microchip, registration and general de-worming of the animal. It also includes a heartworm test for dogs and a FeLV/FIV test for cats.
If you rent, we need proof from your landlord that animals are allowed in your residence. If you own, we need to see proof of home ownership (mortgage payment stub, property tax stub, etc...). We also need to see proof that you have a fenced yard if you plan on adopting a dog that weighs more than 25 pounds. If you would like to place a pet on hold, we require a $20 deposit that is good for 24 business hours and non-refundable if the adoption is not completed. If completed, the deposit will be applied to the adoption fee.

Spay Day
Spay Day is the last Tuesday in February and free pet spaying and neutering is offered by Emancipet. Emancipet also offers monthly low-cost spaying and neutering for pets. Please call 512-587-7729 for more information.
Pets for Seniors Program
The Pets for Seniors program is sponsored by Purina, and 100 percent of the adoption costs are covered for elderly residents.
Guardian Angel Program
The Guardian Angel program began in July of 2007. More than 50 animals have been adopted as Guardian Angels. People can donate $50 which will go towards the adoption fee of an animal he or she chooses to sponsor. The donor's name will be put on a sign with the sponsored animal. The Mutt Strutt event funding also aids the program.
