San
Marcos Animal Shelter Offers Kind News Through Adopt-A-Classroom Program
SAN MARCOS, Texas, April 19, 2012- The San Marcos Animal
Shelter is offering Kind News through its Adopt-A-Classroom program as part of
its youth outreach and education efforts.
“We are sending out letters and donations specifically for
this program to sponsor subscriptions for students in elementary schools,” said
Kara Montiel, animal shelter supervisor.
Kind News is published by the Humane Society of the United States and is the
most widely used humane education resource. Children learn the value of
kindness toward one another, animals and the environment through this
award-winning newspaper.
A school year subscription costs $30 and includes 28 copies of Kind News each
month, a teacher’s guide with each issue, access to reproducible worksheets and
a two-sided mega poster calendar of fun facts and tips on helping animals.
Samples and reviews can be viewed at www.kindness.org/aboutmenu.asp.
A classroom can be adopted by contacting San Marcos Animal Services at 512-805-2650 or by sending a donation of $30 per classroom to 630 E. Hopkins,
San Marcos, TX 78666. Teachers can be placed on a list to receive Kind News
from a sponsor or they can purchase it for their classrooms by contacting the
animal shelter at 512-805-2650 or kmontiel@sanmarcostx.gov.
“From my perspective I think the main goal is public health and safety as well
as the health and safety of the animals,” said Montiel.
The San Marcos Animal Shelter is a nonprofit organization that serves Hays
County, city of Kyle and city of San Marcos. The shelter promotes the rescuing,
sheltering and adopting of animals. The shelter strives to return animals to
their owners and provides animals with a clean and safe environment while at
the shelter.
