Volunteers Needed to Care for Animals
SAN MARCOS, Texas,
April 19, 2012- The San Marcos Animal Shelter needs volunteers to help
care for and play with animals available for adoption.
Volunteer duties include walking and exercising, feeding, bathing, grooming
and playing with the animals. Volunteers can help with clerical duties in the
office and special events that occur throughout the year.
Volunteers can
also donate items that the shelter needs, such as cat and dog food, toys, cleaning
supplies and leashes. The shelter encourages any charitable donations, as the
budget set by the city does not always accommodate purchasing everything the
animals need.
To become a volunteer, you must be at least 18 years old and attend a volunteer
orientation session. Volunteers will receive instructions on proper care
and procedures. Please call 512-805-2650 for session dates and times.
“The socialization skills and having people interact with those animals keeps
them from going stir crazy in the kennels,” said Bert Stratemann, animal services manager. “That, in turn, helps those animals get adopted. We want to
provide the best for those animals that may have never had that kind of care
before.”
The San Marcos Animal Shelter’s goal is to provide exceptional care for
animals in Hays County. The experienced staff and volunteers make every effort
to ensure the animals are well cared for and will find a warm home. The shelter
will accept lost and found animals in Hays County.

shelter's website, http://www.sanmarcostx.gov/departments/health/AnimalServices/animal_services.htm
