About Us

 
The San Marcos Animal Shelter accepts lost and found pets from the areas of Hays County including San Marcos and Kyle.  Citizens are welcome to post lost and found animal reports online. Animals can be held at the shelter for up to seven days and then become property of San Marcos.

"If we continue on the path we are going on now, our adoptions will be up 25 percent, our euthanasia will be down 50 percent and the transfers are up 35 percent,"  said Bert Stratemann, Animal Services Manager. "We’re moving in the right direction, it’s just very difficult without the help of everybody in the community." 


Hours
Starting April 16, 2012, the Adoption Center and Receive and Reclaim Office have new seasonal hours. The center will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Wednesday, the center will be closed with the exception of appointments for adoptions or transfers placed on hold from the day before. The center has hours from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and is closed on Sunday.


The Receive and Reclaim Office will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The office will also have hours on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be closed on weekends.

Volunteers
Volunteers are encouraged to participate at the shelter to help clean and feed animals and work on special projects such as the rabies clinic, Pet Fest and Mutt Strutt.
